840. Walking With Nature In Mauritius; Father Christmas Visits Jersey.

Mauritius Post issued a pleasing pair of stamps on 15 September 2016 which commemorated 2 of the 3 new Nature walks on the island. The Rs2 depicts the Powder Mills walk established in the Pamplemousses district in 2007 and the Rs20 depicts the Sophie walk established in 2013. Rating:- ****.

Jersey Post will issue 8 stamps and 1 miniature sheet as it Christmas issue. The cheerful and attractive set depicts Father Christmas at different sites around Jersey which gives a the issue a nice local relevance. The set was designed by Andrew Farley and lithographed by Cartor. The total face value is £8.59p. This is the 14th "special" stamp issue of the year (not including "Post and Go" labels) from Jersey Post which is why I give it a low rating of **.

The "Jersey myths and legends" set issued on 6 October 2016 was accompanied by a £4.87p miniature sheet which is depicted below. Rating:- *.

Jersey Post also issued a strip of the 6 "Jersey Arms" "Post and Go" stamps on 14 October 2016 to commemorate the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. The stamps had the added inscription "Broad Street/The Battle of Hastings" with an icon depicting a vertical broadsword pointing downwards. This is a set with relevance to the Channel Islands and which commemorates an immensely important anniversary. Rating:- ***.
