1077. 🇸🇬🇲🇺 Joint Singapore-Indonesia Issue; Mauritius Police Commemorated.

🇸🇬 Singapore Post will issue a pair of stamps and a miniature sheet on 7 September 2017 as a Joint issue with Indonesia. The subject of the issue is Corals of the two countries which are celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between them. The stamps were designed by Alynn Teo and lithographed by Secura Singapore and perforated 13. This is an attractive and modestly priced issue. Rating:- *****.

🇲🇺 Mauritius Post issued a single stamp on 1 August 2017 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the country's police force. Rating:- **.

The remaining issues in Mauritius Post's planned new issue programme for 2017 are:-

September  - Centenary of the late Serge Constantine - 1 stamp
Centenary of Lions International and 50th year of Lions' presence in Mauritius - 1 stamp
October      - Sea shells of Mauritius - 4 stamps
November  - The Chagos Islands, otherwise known as British Indian Ocean Territory but claimed by Mauritius, and islets of The Republic of Mauritius - 3 stamps.

🇧🇩 I depict below the remaining stamps not yet shown here of the set of 71 stamps issued by Bangladesh Post which I mentioned in Blog 1076 and which are on the subject of "War Crimes in Bangladesh by Pakistan Army and their Collaborators 1971". A number of these have designs which are as upsetting and disturbing as some of those featured in Blog 1076. Rating:- *****.

  1. I really don;t know if this is what philately is all about or for..No doubting that these atrocities and massacres occurred. But still these images are stomach churning. Dogs eating victims??? Come on.
What next? Rwanda stamps with butchered genocide victims...

    1. Yes, it is difficult to take this issue in. I presume that this issue is intended to remind the world of the horror of what happened in Bangladesh in 1971 and to honour the victims, even the most humble, who suffered and died in the terrible events. There is clearly much anger, understandably, felt towards the perpetrators of these horrors. Perhaps it iisn't a bad idea to bring the reality of these events to the notice of the world, even 46 years after they occurred. There have been many more such instances of man's cruelty to man since the events depicted on the stamps.
I don't think this issue is about "philately" which after all is a pretty trivial pursuit when you realise what does happen to people in this world. This set is clearly issued for other uses of stamps - remembrance and commemoration as well as propaganda.
It makes stamps about "Star Wars" look pretty trite.
